Buro van Otterloo discovered Joep while searching for outstanding young musical talent. And what a talent he turned out to be! In 2025, Joep and his jazz quartet won the prestigious Prinses Christina Jazz Competition with one of his original compositions.

Joep Grotendorst is a young, highly promising Dutch jazz saxophonist who is nearing graduation from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2025, he and his quartet won the prestigious Prinses Christina Jazz Competition. His musical style is characterised by a warm saxophone sound, refined interplay and a natural flair for improvisation.
Alongside his original compositions and more adventurous jazz repertoire, Joep also performs accessible, melodic jazz with his saxophone duo or trio. From well-loved jazz standards and relaxed swing to sophisticated, understated background music.

Saxophone Jazz Duo or Trio – Saxophone, Guitar & Double Bass
Together with a select group of talented musicians, saxophonist Joep performs in an elegant jazz ensemble, available as a duo, trio or quartet.
The Saxophone Jazz Trio is particularly well suited for cocktail receptions, dinners and exclusive dinner events. With their sophisticated yet accessible jazz repertoire, the musicians create a warm, relaxed and stylish atmosphere.
The ensemble performs either 2 x 60 minutes or 3 x 40 minutes, spread over a period of 2.5 to 3 hours. Shorter performances are, of course, also possible.
