Paul’s Soul and Jazz
Paul has been recognized as a Soul and Jazz talent by National Public Broadcasting and prefers to describe his music as “acoustic soul with blues and jazz influences”—a must-see!
Soul and Jazz guitarist/singer Paul is a playful singer-songwriter of lyrical songs, which can also be heard on his EPs Riot & Keep Your Soul Together. A confident voice, the sound of a modern-day crooner!
Solo, duo, trio and quartet performance:
Paul’s Soul and Jazz is a one-man band, performing solo, featuring well-known soul and jazz standards, occasionally interspersed with his own songs: semi-acoustic with soul, jazz, and blues influences. Wonderfully relaxing music for a drinks reception, birthday lunch, or garden party. He can provide his own compact sound system.
Paul can also be booked as a duo or trio with a double bass player, pianist, guitar player and/or drummer. And in quartet it’s called the jazz quartet Crooners Echo, led by the fantastic soul and jazz singer Paul, is acclaimed for its natural playing style, sophisticated, smooth sound, open arrangements, and swinging grooves, performing jazz and pop standards from the 50s and 60s. These “crooners” live up to their name and want nothing more than to share with their audience what real music is all about.
The superb voice of Paul, accompanied by very talented musicians on piano, double bass and drums, combined with that delicious groove, make the Crooners Echo Quartet – a super cool band – let you dance and enjoy!
Biography singer / guitar player Paul van Kessel
From a young age, Paul was captivated by music and always carried his guitar. He started playing for his friends who were playing outside, and his high school music teacher quickly discovered his singing talent. Only after some wanderings did he attend the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he blossomed into a major soul and jazz talent.
His musical heroes include Sly Stone, Miles Davis, Otis Redding, Nat King Cole, and everyone from Big Bill Broonzy to Louis Armstrong. He has performed on numerous soul and jazz stages and in clubs like Wicked Jazz Sounds, and was the lead singer of The Young Sinatras, The Wicked Jazz Sounds Band, Crooners Echo, Scallymatic Orchestra, The Very Next, and The Amsterdam Headliners, as well as a guest vocalist with numerous bands and orchestras. Now he also writes his own soul and jazz music: “Music with my own story. It’s all very personal.”
